Data Breach Response and Website Dev for Solar Company

Problem

A Bay Area solar company contacted me for assistance in addressing a data breach in their website and workspace accounts from several former contractors and business partners. The individuals, based in several countries, managed to hack into systems containing sensitive proprietary data and personal information, resulting in business disruption. In addition to online business assets, the hackers had also managed to access the business owner’s personal email account.

A Bay Area solar company recovering from a multi-country data breach got back online and back in control through a rapid security response, credential management, malware removal, and a full website restoration.

Solution

I worked quickly to ensure the physical and online security of the solar company’s assets — starting with a detailed response plan of action to ensure future security. First, I implemented a secure password-sharing tool — right-sizing access levels to ensure future compliance. Second, I offered recommendations on contacting local authorities and law enforcement about the breach. Finally, I offered ongoing assistance to regain control of critical business accounts.

Follow-Up

In addition to the initial data breach response, I also restored the company’s website. First, the site was scanned for and cleansed of malware and bloated content. I also implemented a lean, faster theme to improve user experience on the web and mobile devices — and updated content to streamline the online shopping experience.
